For the Future Living Institute's office space in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, I drew inspiration from the site's rich history and unique characteristics. Utilizing rammed earth floors, reminiscent of the area's mud flat origins with clay deposits, I sought to pay homage to its heritage. The layout of the space was influenced by the irregularity of the pierced piers, disrupting New York City's rigid grid system. Incorporating copper-clad metal "work walls," reminiscent of shipping containers, and organic-shaped lighting fixtures, evocative of the Navy Yard's former organic coastline, I aimed to create a cohesive design that seamlessly blends past and present.
